Import Cars from Japan to Kenya

Japan remains Kenya's largest single source of quality used vehicles — and for good reason. Meticulously maintained by original owners, auction-graded by independent inspectors, and shipped through well-established Ro-Ro routes to Mombasa.

Arcana X Motors sources directly from major Japanese auction houses (USS, TAA, JAA) and trusted export yards in Yokohama, Nagoya and Osaka. We bid on your behalf using auction grades (typically Grade 4 or 4.5 minimum) and disclose the auction sheet before you commit.

Popular Japanese imports for Kenya include the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Land Cruiser 200/300, Harrier, RAV4, Hilux, Vitz, Aqua and Prius; Nissan X-Trail, Note, Serena, and GT-R; Honda Vezel, Fit, CR-V and Odyssey; Mazda CX-5, Demio and Axela; Subaru Forester, Outback, Impreza and WRX STI; Lexus RX, NX, LX, IS and LS; and Isuzu D-Max.

Turnaround from confirmed order to Nairobi collection is typically 45–60 days: 3–5 days sourcing, 5–7 days paperwork, 30–35 days shipping, 7–10 days KRA/KEBS clearance. Every stage is tracked and you're kept informed by WhatsApp.

45–60 days from confirmed payment to your driveway. Ro-Ro shipping to Mombasa is 30–35 days, plus 2–3 weeks for auction bidding, paperwork and Nairobi clearance.

What is the maximum age of car I can import from Japan?+

KRA enforces an 8-year age limit from year of manufacture at the point of shipment. Older vehicles may be denied entry — we check age eligibility before quoting.

Duty is roughly 25% import duty + 20% excise + 16% VAT + 2.25% IDF + 2% RDL, all applied on the CIF value. On average this adds 60–75% to the CIF cost. We calculate exact duty per vehicle.
